🌱 Biogas and Biomethane: Other Environmental Permits - Post-fermentation Residue Management in Agricultural Biogas Plants 🌱

Last publication on environmental permits. In the case of agricultural biogas plants, investors are authorized to manage post-fermentation residues resulting from the proper fermentation of biomass. Such residues can be utilized as fertilizer. 🌱

Post-fermentation residue management in agricultural biogas plants typically occurs through two procedures:

🔄 Recovery under Process R10: involves processing waste on land surfaces beneficial to agriculture or environmental improvement, essentially utilizing post-fermentation residues in agriculture.

🌱Obtaining a permit for introducing organic fertilizer or soil-improving organic agents into circulation, regulated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

It's worth noting that waste management regulations vary for certain agricultural biogas plants covered by simplified administrative procedures, as per the law.

🏢 Competent authority for issuing decisions:

  • Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development: for permits to introduce organic fertilizer into circulation.

  • County Governor (Starosta powiatowy) or Voivode (Marszałek województwa): for permits for recovery under Process R10.

📅 Validity period of the permit:

  • Permit for introducing organic fertilizer into circulation: indefinite.

  • Permit for recovery under Process R10: not longer than 10 years.

🌿 Summary 🌿

The utilization of post-fermentation residue in agricultural biogas plants is a significant aspect of biogas production. It not only allows for the efficient use of biomass fermentation by-products as fertilizer but also minimizes the negative environmental impact. The procedures and authorities responsible for issuing decisions are clearly defined, facilitating investors in conducting activities in accordance with applicable regulations. It's important to be aware of differences in waste management in individual biogas plants and to monitor the validity of obtained permits. By doing so, we can contribute to promoting sustainable development and environmental protection.
